Toyland Tales - A View into the Shader and Props

Dev Log: Game Background Props Creation

Date: 6/7/2024

Welcome to the latest entry in our development log! Hello my name is Johnny and I am the lead 3D modeler for our game, I’ve been focusing on creating background props with the help of Danielle, Aiden, and Lucas to bring our game world to life. This week, I dedicated my efforts to modeling a variety of props that will add charm and detail to our environments. Before diving into the props, let's take a moment to explore a shader I've developed to enhance their appearance:

Shader and Global Volume Development: Enhancing Prop Visuals

During the development process, I encountered a challenge: how to efficiently create numerous props while maintaining visual quality. To address this, I focused on developing a shader aimed at enhancing the appearance of our props.

The shader primarily consists of a global volume with additional effects applied to the camera. My primary goals were to add depth through shadows and make certain colors pop, thereby enhancing the overall visual appeal of our props. That aside....

Following the room concept art that Lucas made here are some of the models I've crafted for this project.

Kids Letter Cube (C B A):  A cube with letters C, B, and A on its faces, aiding in educational and interactive elements within the game.

Long Kids Rectangular Table with Small Seat: A longer table with a smaller accompanying seat, providing additional seating options for young characters.

Kids Wooden Ride Horse: A classic wooden ride-on horse, offering nostalgic and imaginative play opportunities for our young players.

Toy Plane: A miniature airplane model, perfect for adding a sense of adventure to our game world. It seems a bit worn. I wonder if someone forgot it :/

Toy Car (Blue, Green, Red):  Colorful toy cars in blue, green, and red variants, ideal for adding vibrancy and variety to our scenes.

Creyons (Green, Blue, Purple): Realistic creyon models in green, blue, and purple colors, enhancing the visual appeal of our environments.

Rectangular Bookshelf: A bookshelf designed for storing children's books and toys, contributing to the ambiance of our game settings. (there will objects in the shelf later on)

Couch:  A comfortable couch for kids, providing a cozy spot for characters to relax and interact.

Kids Letter Rug: A rug adorned with letters, adding educational value and visual interest to our scenes.

Kids Square Table:  A small table perfectly sized for children to use, adding functionality and realism to our environments.

Background Shelves with Kids Designs (Modeled by me textured by Lucas): Two additional shelves featuring playful designs tailored for children, enhancing the whimsical atmosphere of our game.

Cloud Lights (Blue, Pink, Yellow): Soft, glowing cloud-shaped lights in blue, pink, and yellow hues, illuminating our environments with a magical touch.

Square Pillow: A square-shaped pillow, perfect for adding comfort and coziness to our scenes.

Rectangular Pillow: A rectangular pillow, providing additional seating support and decorative flair.

Sorbus Mats (Red, Green, Blue): Colorful Sorbus mats in red, green, and blue, adding visual interest and defining play areas within our game environments.

Conclusion:

These props represent just a portion of the effort our team has put into crafting immersive and engaging backgrounds for our game. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to refine and expand our virtual world!
